God of Destruction of Universe 7 (Goku's universe). Resembles the ancient Egyptian god Bastet. Loves good food, sleeps a lot, and has a short temper.

Broly

Tormented Saiyan with legendary power. Several characters exploit his power for use of their own evil plans.

Bulma

First friend of Goku. Inventor and electrical engineer with a fiery temper.

Cell

Artificial life form created to kill Goku. He has the dna (cells) of several characters giving him the ability to use each of their individual signature moves in battle.

Chi-Chi

Wife of Goku, also a skilled martial artist. Overly protective with a fiery personality.

Dende

A Namekian. Earth's newest guardian diety and great healer.

Dr. Hedo

A Superhero-obsessed genius scientist!

Emperor Pilaf

Leader of the Pilaf Gang. Together with his two companions, he searches for the Dragon Balls to wish upon them to be the ruler of the world.

Frieza

One of the most powerful and evil characters of the Dragon Ball universe. He's able to distroy an entire planet with one blast from his finger.

Goku Black

Evil character resembling Goku bent on destroying all human life. He is first introduced on an alternate future of Earth.

Jiren (Jiren the Gray)

The most powerful member of the Pride Troopers and main antagonist in the Tournament of Power (Dragon Ball Super series).

Kami

A Namekian. Earth's guardian diety and creator of the planet's Dragon Balls.

Korin

A fluffy, cute cat. He's at least 800 years old and lives at Korin tower. He grows Senzu Beans (beans with extraordinary healing powers).

Krillin

Tetters from timid to over-confident. Good friend of Goku and trained under Master Roshi with Goku as well.

Majin Buu

An almost indistructible magical life form. Destructive in nature, able to turn humans into food (usually candy) and consuming them.

Master Roshi

Martial arts master and trainer of Goku. Wise but distracted easily by pretty woman.

Piccolo

Bad guy turned good guy of the humanoid species called the Namekians. Very self-disciplined with a grumpy additude.

Raditz

Saiyan warrior and older brother of Goku. Poses a threat to Goku, his son, and the Earth after he fails in recruiting Goku in his plans of destruction.

Son Gohan (Gohan)

Eldest son of Goku and Chi-Chi. One of the strongest characters in the Dragon Ball universe.

Son Goku (Goku)

Main protagonist. One of the most powerful characters in the Dragon Ball universe. Pure and sometimes naive, admirable and lovable.

Son Goten (Goten)

Youngest son of Goku and Chi-Chi. Closly resembles his father and powerful as well.

Tien Shinhan & Chiaotzu

Bad guy (trained under Master Roshi's rival) turned good guy and his child-like, magical companion, Chiaotzu.

Trunks & Future Trunks

Powerful time-travelling character. Often his goals involve saving the future world from destruction.

Vegeta

Bad guy turned ...er good guy. Last prince of the humanoid species, the Saiyan. Passionate, rude, and always trying to best Goku in a fight.

Yamcha & Pu'ar

Yamcha: a former desert bandit turned fellow trainee of martial arts and friend of Goku with his shape-shifting companion, Pu'ar.

Zeno

Child-like supreme diety of the mulitiverse.

The History

Dragon Ball is a Japanese media franchise created by Akira Toriyama. It started as a manga written and illustrated by Toriyama in 1984. From 1986 to present time, Toei Animation has adapted the manga into several anime television series as well as movies.
The main story follows the journey of a boy (named Son Goku) and his life of training in the martial arts. On his planet are 7 magical balls scattered but once these seven balls are together, a giant dragon emerges and grants one wish to whomever asks. The prospect of the Dragon Balls always catches the attention of bad guys and, oftentimes, Goku and the friends he makes along the way are there to stop their evil plans.
The Dragon Ball story continues to this day with much more characters, stories, and action-packed entertainment. Today, the Dragon Ball anime series (and movies) have been considered one of the best martial arts anime of all time.
The Fighting
A lot of the character's fighting styles are influenced from actual martial arts but if you're at all familiar with the manga/anime you'd know that the fighting involves a lot more than martial arts. Most characters have fantastical moves involving fireball blasts, moving near the speed of light, and teleportation to name a few. Some characters evolve into different forms with higher "power levels" and others can even fuse together!

Original Video Animations, or OVAs, are special episodes, or movies, made separately from the rest of the season episodes. They are sometimes alternate story lines from a series or even stories focusing on characters that played a smaller role in a series.

These are/were the main Dragon Ball card game releases. They each have different types of cards based on the gameplay and with almost every major card game release came gameplay improvements.
